"Aurlands Buxton - The original Penny Loafer" is an upgraded version of the well-known Aurlandskoen. It appears more similar to the original Aurland shoe and is at the same time more elegant and modern. The shoe has a better sole and is made of slightly softer leather for more comfort from the start. The sole is glued on and then sewn on with a basting stitch.

The shoes are made in Aurland, deep in the Sognefjord with a lot of good handwork at our small shoe factory. The factory was established in 1939 by Inga and Andreas Wangen. The factory was run by the Wangen family for three generations. In 2008, the current owner took over operation and development of Aurland Skofabrikk.

The leather is from cattle that have grazed in Europe, and is tanned at Sepeci, Europe's best tannery.

The leather sole is nice to dance on, but is slippery and not suitable in rainy weather. The rubber sole is a good "all-round" sole that is soft to walk on and provides grip on smooth surfaces.

Here you will find a link to tips and advice on the care and maintenance of your shoes.

Aurlandskoen has a long history. At the time, there were 19 different shoe factories in operation in Aurland and 100 people employed in the shoemaking profession. Today, Aurland Skofabrikk på Vestlandet is the only shoe factory in Norway that produces the well-known and characteristic Aurland shoe, popularly called "the original penny loafer".
